Flu vaccine for children

Children under 6 months are not eligible for the flu vaccine.

Some children aged 6 months to 8 years may need two doses of the flu vaccine to build stronger protection against flu.

  • First time getting the flu vaccine? Your child needs two doses, 28 days apart. The first dose helps the immune system learn how to respond to the virus, while the second dose strengthens the protection.
  • Only had one flu vaccine dose before? Your child needs two doses this season, 28 days apart, to build stronger protection.
  • Already had two flu vaccine doses in a previous season? Your child needs only one dose this season, as their immune system has already been primed by the earlier doses.

If your child needs a second dose, please book a regular appointment at KAUST Health 28 days after the first dose.
