Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry Training Course

The Analytical Core Lab is offering a basic training course on the use and application of Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS is a unique technique for qualitative and quantitative analysis of unknown samples. Applications of GC-MS include drug detection, environmental analysis, explosives investigation, etc. Participants will be introduced to the background and practice of GC/MS as well as important practical considerations and typical applications. The hands-on session will feature practical demonstration of instrument operation.

Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22
Ibn Sina Building (building 3), level 3, room 3320

Course Outline:

  • What is GC/MS? (Introduction/Technique Description)
  • Theory and Practice of GC/MS (Basic Instrumentation, Sample Introduction, Separation Mechanism, Ionization Mechanism, and Data Handling)
  • Practical Considerations (Method Optimization, Column Consideration, and Temperature Programming)
  • Typical Applications
  • Hands-on Session
