The Project Management team needs to install new isolation valves in the fire water system to increase long-term reliability and flexibility for all buildings on the academic campus. During each phase, the water supply to the fire sprinkler system will be temporarily interrupted within each of the listed buildings and common areas.
This work will require the temporary closure of certain academic buildings. To minimize impact, the project will be executed in two phases.

In the interest of health and safety, and to comply with KAUST Fire department directives:
- No persons beyond those involved in the execution of the project, emergency, security and safety personnel will be allowed in any of the affected buildings during the project phases
- Only essential hazardous operations, research and/or experimental work should be carried out during the stated times. Essential personnel that require access during the shutdown should submit their names and location to researchsafety@kaust.edu.sa
- All non-essential heating elements and related equipment must be switched-off
- All non-essential gas cylinders must be turned-off and secured
During these times, there will be limited Emergency Services assistance to the non-affected buildings and areas. Therefore we would request that access to non-affected buildings in the academic horseshoe be limited to essential works only.

Why give these long lists of buildings and completely close access to campus today? Difficult to follow…
Dear Steven
Thank you for your comment regarding the interruption to academic buildings during this weekend. KAUST F&C take safety and security extremely seriously and to ensure that the necessary and urgent works to the fire water system are completed in a safe and swift manner it has been deemed necessary to close the normal operations in the academic campus. During this time, the sprinkler systems are partially inoperative creating a potential Health & Safety risk within campus buildings. To minimize any risk, no staff are permitted access to those buildings highlighted under the date of work on that day; those buildings not highlighted are available, with permission from the Research Safety team via email (researchsafety@kaust.edu.sa) only.
We appreciate your patience during these two planned closures and apologize if you were confused by this post. If you would like to discuss this further, please don’t hesitate to contact me, Ammar. Y. Fayie (ammar.fayie@kaust.edu.sa).
