In the mobile era, we all live in a big data world. The pictures we share, the shopping we do, the climate forecast we check, or the general information we look for are just examples of this big data ensemble.
On Sunday, December 4, the Computer, Electrical, and Material Science and Engineering division will open its doors and invite the KAUST community to explore its latest exciting research discoveries and the big data paradigm shift.
Data has become a new commodity–a source of economic and social value. Over the last few decades, the increasing use of the internet and mobile phones, together with the development of new electronic devices and sensors, has generated a huge amount of data that is driving the present economy.
The CEMSE team will present the dilemmas that researchers face when working with large amounts of data. They will explore the strategies researchers implement when trying to manage and turn data into useful information. And they will also discuss how big data applications can be applied to various fields of science.
