Sustainability at KAUST is not one project, one team, or one idea. It is happening across labs, classrooms, offices, campus spaces, community programs, and partnerships.
The 2025 KAUST SDG Highlight Report brings together examples of how sustainability is being advanced across the University through education, research, innovation, operations, outreach, and partnerships. Covering all 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this year’s edition introduces the connection between KAUST’s activities and specific SDG targets, new metrics of output alignment, and incorporates our 2024-2026 Communication on Engagement to the United Nations Global Compact, reaffirming our commitment to its Ten Principles and to advancing sustainable development.
More importantly, this report reflects the collective efforts that make this progress possible. It demonstrates how the contributions from everyone across the KAUST community come together to support meaningful action on local and global sustainability challenges.
As you explore the stories and initiatives featured on these pages, we invite you to consider how sustainability connects to your own work, studies, interests, or daily actions. Every member of the KAUST community has a role to play, and some of the most impactful contributions begin with small ideas, collaborations, and actions within our own spheres of influence.
We hope this report inspires you to become a sustainability champion in your own domain, continue building on the progress showcased here, and help shape the next chapter of KAUST’s sustainability journey. We look forward to seeing even more contributions reflected in future editions.
