Design Fiction by Julian Bleecker

Design Fiction is a way of storytelling. It is the use of diegetic prototypes to suspend disbelief about possible near futures. In this lecture, Julian Bleecker, designer, technologist and researcher at the Near Future Laboratory, will talk about how Design Fiction is a valuable technique for developing insights and creating objects that can bring about better, more habitable futures.
Learning from Innovation Failure – Lessons from the Museum of Failure by Samuel West

In this keynote lecture, Samuel West will use the stories of exhibited items as a backdrop to explore the theme ‘Learning from Innovation Failure’. West will explore acceptance of failure, improving learning from failure and establishing a team climate of psychological safety in which it is safe to take meaningful risks.

Join us for the opening of the Mangroves – Between the Land and the Sea exhibition at the University Library and enter to win a sunset cruise for two.
KAUST is home to a vibrant and thriving blue carbon mangrove forest that spans over 150 hectares, which has expanded more than 20% in the last decade alone. In this exhibition, you will learn more about how mangrove forests protect our shores from rises in the sea level, help mitigate climate change and host a broad range of animals.
