Email awareness: Aramex phishing email

Email is an integral part of our everyday communication. Earlier last week, several users at KAUST reported receiving a suspicious email being delivered to their mailbox from popular shipping service Aramex.

The Information Security Office has confirmed that the email sent to approximately 127 users, pretending to be from Aramex, contained a malicious link in the body of the email that intended to redirect users to a fake website, then attempting to get the recipient to enter and submit credit card information.

A similar email posing as Saudi Post was sent to our community a month earlier which impacted two employees resulting in a loss of around 35,000/- SAR.

Since email is known to be the most common vector that cybercriminals target to attempt to seize sensitive data, at KAUST, we run simulated phishing emails throughout the year for educational purposes. Our goal is to raise awareness of active cybersecurity threats, and to reduce the susceptibility of cyber-attacks originating via email.

Always remember! Reporting our phishing simulations and reporting actual phishing emails by using the PhishMe button or by forwarding emails to phishreporter@kaust.edu.sa (if the button does not show on your Outlook for Windows or the Dock on Mac) will help keep KAUST safe from cyber criminals. This was your human firewall score will increase and you can win cool prizes.
