Designated smoking areas on campus

The KAUST smoking policy outlines the designated areas around campus and in the KAUST Research and Technology Park (KRTP) complex where smoking is allowed.

Everybody’s support is appreciated in limiting the smoking in the designated areas only.

Hi,
Can someone share the what the drivers for the changes were?
It seems we will increase the time the Smokers use in breaks. Most Smokers probably don’t make up the time they spend smoking already. I’m sure there are many who do, but the perception is that they don’t make up the lost time.
Perhaps we can take more steps to support smokers quitting, or take a novel approach as per this Japanese company where non-smokers get extra time off annually. Reported in the New York Times here: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/11/02/world/asia/japan-smokers-vacation.html
Thanks
