Abstract

Grid-scale energy storage is a critical enabler to a 100% renewable future energy system globally, providing both energy balancing and grid stability.  At the same time, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is quietly growing to be one of the largest markets for grid-scale energy storage in the world, with over 25GWh of grid-scale BESS projects in operation, construction, or active tender.  This talk will cover the evolution of grid-scale energy storage over the past 15 years, and highlight some of the major drivers of its deployment in KSA and internationally.
