The Office of the Arts invites adult community members to join one of our three music groups – the Angklung Ensemble, Orchestra or the Chorus. All three groups will begin rehearsing in early September to prepare for the Fall 2018 KAUST Ensembles Concert on Monday, October 22.
The Angklung Ensemble rehearses on Sunday evenings from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in building 20, starting on Sunday, September 2.
The angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made of bamboo tubes, each with a different pitch, that are attached to a frame. By shaking the tubes and playing all the notes together, the ensemble creates a complete song with harmonies. All musical levels are welcome; it requires only teamwork to achieve a meaningful musical experience.
The Orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in building 20. Starting on Monday, September 3.
The Orchestra is made up of individuals with previous experience in playing an instrument and we are especially seeking wind and brass players. In some cases we can provide an instrument for your use. If you are interested with any instrument contact the Arts Office to schedule an informal interview at artsoffice@kaust.edu.sa.
The Chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. in building 20, starting on Tuesday, September 4.
The Chorus consists of community members who have some prior knowledge of music reading and we are especially seeking male vocalists. The main objective is the enjoyment of singing in an ensemble.
