Breast cancer awareness campaign success

To mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, KAUST Health provided free breast cancer screenings to women over 40 years of age. Our aim was to raise awareness and provide early detection and treatment support for those at higher risk of breast cancer.

During the month of October, KAUST Health provided over 80 clinical and mammography screenings to the target audience. This is an eightfold increase over the normal monthly breast cancer screening rate. Thank you to everyone who came in for a screening.

According to the National Cancer Institute in the USA, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Fortunately, when breast cancer is detected early, in the localized stage, the five-year relative survival rate is nearly 100%.

Screenings are available year-round for men and women with risk-factors at any age. Make an appointment with Family Medicine or the OB-GYN department to get screened.

Kind regards,
Chris Sealey,
Director, KAUST Health
