A Message from President Chameau: University resumes normal operations on Monday

Dear KAUST Community,

On Saturday, I informed you of my expectation that the University will resume normal operations on Monday, November 3, 2014. I am pleased to confirm that we have successfully completed the start-up of our water desalination plant and are no longer relying on trucked-in water supplies.

Working with faculty, managers and their team members, we have assessed our facilities and laboratories to ensure that they are safe and ready for operations. Today, I met with managers around campus, our school, daycare and other units to receive updates on their progress. I am confident that we are ready to return to work on Monday.

Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding over the past few days.

President Jean-Lou Chameau

Many thank-yous to the entire team — volunteers, divers, managers, staff and emergency planners — for safely returning the campus and community to full operational status. They have turned a potentially precarious situation (no water in the desert) into a bit of stay-at-home camping. The experience was even educational, making me more mindful of water’s use, re-use, and waste (e.g., gray-water reuse opportunities, or tap design and flow volume).

Thank you!

I second the comments posted by Mr.Glendon. The whole Kaust community has the same view & opinion. It is but very important to acknowledge & appreciate the gesture of (our) KAUST President which he has shown in timely updating the status to community & other welfare measures taken. I have worked in this society for more than 25 years & have never witnessed such amazing action. Thank you so much Mr.President & thank you all who have done their best.

And I too add my thanks and appreciation to all those involved, on land and under water, to the volunteers and to those who were volunteered, from Senior Management, residents and to the Scouts, their siblings and other scholars. What an amazing community KAUST has, to see most people pulling together during this ‘another KAUST pioneering experience’ from which we will have all learnt something about caring for our environment (recycling water in our homes)! I am proud to be a part of the KAUST experience.
