Register for the KAUST Triathlon

All community members are welcome to join and be part of the annual KAUST Triathlon. There are plenty of spots available for triathlon participants, warmly cheering spectators and volunteers to help organize the event. 

The event will start with an open water swim in the harbor, followed by a bike race to the King Abdullah Monument and back and finally a running race through the Island neighborhood with the finishing point at Al-Marsa Parking Lot.

Triathlon participants

Registration for the KAUST triathlon is available for three categories: 

  • Individual Olympic Distance – Participants aged 17 and above can compete in this 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, and 10 km run.
  • Individual Sprint Distance – Participants aged 14 and above can compete in this 400-meter swim, 20 km bike, and a 5 km run.
  • Team Race Sprint Distance – Participants aged 14 and above can compete in this 400-meter swim, 20 km bike, and a 5 km run.

Entry

  • Registration is open now and works on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Reserve your spot today using the KAUST Triathlon Form
  • The booking system will close at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, November 20
  • On-site registration will be available on the day of the event from 6:00 a.m.
  • All participants must wear the number provided during the races.

Please see race route maps below. Some of the tracks may run near your house. You are welcome to greet the participants with warm waving hands, supportive banners, or a good cheer!

Swimming Track

400 meters, 2 laps for Olympic Distance

Transition Area

A defined area in which an athlete stores their bicycle and various other equipment. This is where the change over from swimming to cycling and cycling to running occur.

Mount Line

A designated line at the exit from transition after which athletes are to mount their bicycles and ride. The Mount Line will be clearly identified by flags, lines and a race official.

Dismount Line

A clearly marked designated line at the entrance to transition from the bike course before which athletes are to dismount their bikes fully and move to the bike racks.

Cycling Road Route

20 km, 2 laps for Olympic Distance

Running Road Route 

2.5 km, 2 laps for Sprint Distance and 4 laps for Olympic Distance

Volunteers

Would you like to support this event? We are looking for volunteers aged 14 and up to cover tasks like marshals, water stations, transition areas, photography, registration tables, and more. The volunteers will be required to attend pre-event meetings and to be present during the whole event.

Spectators 

All Community members are welcome to join us and enjoy this spectacular event.

The best view of the swim race is from the area near the “I Love KAUST” sign at Harbor Walk . 

You can cheer for the bikers along the Unity Boulevard or wait for the participants at the finish line in Al-Marsa parking lot. The winners will be announced there at 11:00 a.m.

The event timeline

Pools and South Beach operating hours  

Due to the Triathlon, some of our facility’s operating times will be adjusted. Please find details below: 

  • South Beach: 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Harbor Sports Club Pools: 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • All other facilities: Normal operating hours

Safety information

Both residents and participants need to be extra mindful during the race. We would like everyone to use caution, especially during the event’s bike race stage, between 7:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
