Fishkam

This live high-definition underwater camera at the University’s Nature Conservation Area near the King Abdullah Monument showcases the rich marine biodiversity at KAUST. Check out the variety of fish, and if you are wondering what kind of fish you are looking at, the HSE Species Identification Booklet provides information and photos about each common fish species.

Biodiversity, flora and fauna at KAUST

President Tony F. Chan provides a foreword to this unique HSE publication, which documents the amazing flora and fauna around our community. With more than 250 bird species calling KAUST home throughout the year, 90 plus hectares of mangroves, 150 hectares dedicated to nature conservation and more than 130 fish species recorded around KAUST reefs during a single HSE study, we are truly fortunate to be living next to such a unique ecosystem. The publication was made possible by support from the KAUST10 Committee.

Birdkam

KAUST is an ideal environment for bird life with its variety of habitats including mudflats, mangroves, lakes and parks. At the Safaa Golf Course, over 170 bird species have been recorded over the years. Birdkam is a new live camera at the Golf Course that is aimed at the treated wastewater effluent lake that attracts a variety of birds. If you are wondering what kind of bird you are looking at, look no further. Check out the HSE Self-Guided Bird Walk Series, the Safaa Golf Club publication that documents the birds that either reside or pass through KAUST during their annual migration. More than 20,000 KAUST bird records have recently been archived digitally as a collaborative project between the University Library and HSE. The KAUST bird records are now linked to eBird, the world renowned global citizen science platform.
