Lecture: Unveiling Hidden Dimensions of Light

This past fall, artist and designer Nadya Suvorova has been exchanging and developing ideas with researchers of the Division for Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE).
On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at 4:00 p.m., Nadya will give a lecture entitled “Unveiling Hidden Dimensions of Light,” where she will talk about her artistic exchange experience at KAUST, the creative process and her experience working with scientists. After her talk, you’ll be invited to an Q&A session with the artist and to visit her studio.
At KAUST, Nadya has been working closely with research scientist Qiang Fu, whose research interests lie in the multi-disciplinary area of computational imaging, aiming at designing next-generation imaging systems (photography, microscopy, etc.) with a joint optics/computation method. Nadya also collaborated with Ph.D. student Simeng Qiu from the KAUST Visual Computing Center.
The exchange Nadya participated in was supervised at KAUST by Professor Dr. Wolfgang Heidrich, director for the Visual Computing Center and organized by the Artists-in-Labs Program from the Institute for Cultural Studies in the Arts (ICS), in collaboration with the Office of Enrichment Programs at KAUST. With the support of the Division for Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Sciences and Engineering (CEMSE) and the KAUST Library.
About the Artist
Nadya Suvorova is an interactive media artist based in Zurich. At the intersection of art, science and play, she invents poetic journeys using emerging technologies. She pulls her inspiration from the observation of the natural world. Her interactive works spark curiosity to playfully engage access to and awareness of our natural world through digital media. She has shown her work internationally at the ZKM Karlsruhe, Cité du Design at Saint Etienne, Museum of Arts (MoA) Seoul, Hammer Museum etc.
Upcoming Artist in Residency
As part of the Artists-in-Labs Program, Saudi artist Nassel Algamel will have a residency exchange in 2019 at the Department for Materials at ETH in Zurich.
About Artists-in-Labs Program
This program runs since 2003 by The Institute for Cultural Studies in the Arts (ICS), an international transdisciplinary centre for cultural analysis, cultural theory, and cultural history in the arts related to all topic areas of Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK).
