KAUST-trained high school students win at the 1st Gulf Physics Olympiad

Four Physics Olympiad high school students who trained at KAUST in collaboration with Saudi Initiatives’ Pre-University Programs recently participated in the 1st Gulf Physics Olympiad (GPhO 2016) held in Riyadh from March 19 to 24.

The Gulf Physics Olympiads is a new competition for GCC member states under the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. Similar to other Gulf Olympiads, it consists of both theoretical and practical tests. Preparation and participation in the event provide the opportunity for the Kingdom to discover outstanding students, develop their abilities and hone their skills.

All four students achieved medal status, with Faisal Alsaif and Yazan Almajnouni receiving gold medals and Faisal Ahajeri and Ghada Alshalan receiving silver medals.

KAUST congratulates this year’s GPhO winners. The winners will go on to compete at the Asian Physics Olympiad international competitions later this summer. Join us in congratulating and supporting the students as they move forward.
