#HearttheOceans is a film festival designed to encourage interaction and discussion between marine scientists, ocean lovers and KAUST community members about ocean conservation.

Thursday, February 11

7:00 p.m. – “North of the Sun” film

Friday, February 12

2:00 p.m. – “Desert Seas” (presented by Dr. Michael Berumen)
4:30 p.m. – “Shark: Beneath the Surface (BBC film with discussion)

8:00 p.m. – Ocean Film Festival Part 1

Saturday, February 13

7:00 p.m. – Ocean Film Festival Part 2

The #HearttheOceans Film Festival will feature a number of action-packed films that push the boundaries of sports and endurance. These are short films—each festivals’ collection of films will total approximately 2+ hours per night.

Ocean Film Festival #1 program @ 8:00 p.m.

  • “Antandory” (kite surfing)
  • “Step ‘n’ Soul” (surfing)
  • “Ray: A Life Underwater” (deep sea diving)
  • “The Last Ocean” (marine conservation)
  • “A Life in Extremes” (free diving)
  • “This Time Tomorrow” (big wave surfing)

Ocean Film Festival #2 program @ 7:00 p.m.

  • “Attractive Distractions” (surfing)
  • “(R)Evolution” (marine environmental documentary)
  • “Storm Chase” (Red Bull windsurfing challenge)
  • “Prime” (wakeboarding)
  • “The Crystal Labyrinth” (cave diving).

#HearttheOceans is organized by the Society for Conservation Biology (Marine Section) and the Red Sea Research Center and is sponsored by Graduate Affairs.

  1. Where are the movies taking place? At the theater? Also, how long is each film as I see that there will be five movies showing on Friday at 5pm….Thanks!
