President’s Distinguished Lecture Series: Dr. Mostafa A. El-Sayed

“Nanotechnology Meets Biology in the Cancer Cell:

Applications in Medicine, Drug Delivery and Determining Drug Efficacy”

Dr. Mostafa El-Sayed, Georgia Institute of Technology

Sunday, February 14
12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
Lecture Hall 2, Engineering Science Hall (bldg. 9)

Dr. Mostafa A. El-Sayed is the director of the laser dynamics laboratory at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and was awarded the U.S. National Medal of Science in Chemistry.

With more than 50 years of research experience, Dr. El-Sayed is an expert in steady state and ultra-fast laser spectroscopy, with several applications, including energy and medicine. Dr. El-Sayed specializes in studying nanostructures and will talk about his work with gold nanoparticles and their unique properties.

In this lecture, he will describe how these nanoparticles are used to study drug delivery and the efficacy of different cancer drugs using the Raman spectra method for detection. Further studies in mammals and potential future applications will also be discussed.

Please join us for this exciting and distinguished lecture.
