The Winter Enrichment Program 2016 takes to the wide-open oceans with a new keynote lecture dedicated to the latest research being done at sea.

Five hundred years after the world was first circumnavigated, seafaring has emerged as a powerful driver of exploration, innovation and discovery in the ocean. Our Keynote lecture Seafaring in the 21st Century: Exploration, Innovation and Discovery (7:00 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, at the Building 20 Auditorium) will explore two global explorations driving a wave of discoveries on the ocean, with Prof. Carlos Duarte looking at the Malaspina Expedition’s work in charting climate change in the oceans and Dr. Eric Karsenti sharing the work of the Tara Oceans Expedition.

We also welcome Prof. Francis Waldvogel to present his work with the Race for Water Foundation and the remarkable MS Tûranor PlanetSolar—currently the largest solar boat ever built to test the capacity of a solar-powered boat to navigate the global ocean.

Join our three speakers for a fascinating look at the achievements of the new wave of 21st century seafaring. Everyone in the KAUST community is welcome to this event.
