Tamimi Shopping Carts

Facilities & Community would like to remind community members who take Tamimi Supermarket carts home, to place them in plain view outside their residence, so Tamimi Supermarket staff can easily collect them each morning.

  1. I am sorry that I disagree with this at all. The shopping carts should be limited to the parking lot of Tamimi.

I have seen some of these carts roling on the street and could cause real danger to moving cars, kids, or bikers.

I would recommend banning taking these carts home.

    Thanks,

    Ash

  2. Shopping carts must be limited within the premises of the supermarket up to the adjacent supermarket parking areas .

Bringing it home must be stopped even your house is just across the street or at the back of the Supermarket including offices nearby.

However, a modified delivery service schedule must be studied and planned to accommodate the demand for delivery service.

  3. I don’t see a problem with ppl rolling away with the carts if they make sure they leave them in plain sight as well as make sure they are immobilised. Maybe there is a good reason for them to take the carts as they could be living far from the bus stop especially for women carrying heavy shopping (some heavy items cannot be delivered).

  4. Being a community member without a car.. please do not stop us from using the shopping carts to take our shopping home. I do use the delivery service but cannot do so for perishables, meat or things that need to go directly into the fridge (and that are too heavy to carry). Why stop us from using the shopping carts just because some users are not putting them out to be collected by Tamimi (thanks Tamimi for doing this for us, we do appreciate it), and again like anything the users should be considerate and not leave the shopping carts unsecured so that they endanger cars or people by rolling around !

  5. I accept that some people may not have an alternative to using the shopping trolleys to take the goods home, perhaps they should return them to the store afterwards?

  6. An increasing issue is the lack of shopping cart at Tamimi. If you go between 5:30 and 7:00pm the chance of getting a cart is very slim.

    • Hi Richard, that is because Tamimi has been unable to retrieve shopping carts that are either still in apartment buildings, inside the homes or not visible when they are walking about collecting the carts used.

      • Well, there is one under water in the Red sea at the harbor walk for example … and many are left all around…
Since we cannot prevent people from taking the trolleys home (what ever good or lazy reasons they have), maybe we can think about designing DROPPING POINTS at strategic areas where people can bring the trolleys. This would make the job easier for the guys of Tamimi in charge of wandering around KAUST in search of the missing trolleys…
Maybe providing them with a car like the one they have in the airport would also help them to bring back the trolleys home…

  7. If people want to take their persihables home in the shopping trolley they can easily manage to push the empty (lighter) trolley back the next time they go to Tamimi. It is unfair to expect Tamimi staff to go round the community collecting trollies.

  8. Not everyone have a car, we try and buy small amounts everytime that we can take on bike and scooter. I go on the bus once a week to pickup the pressed laundry. Anything else that are not perishable and bulky then have the Tamimi team to deliver.

I see others just tricycle with a big basket. Some use the child trailer with their bikes.

Tamimi even sells personal trolley baskets.

There are actually many options available. The tip is go more often and buy smaller quantity.

  9. I suggest a new service by KAUST transportation called oncampus shopping taxi.

The tariff could be about 10 to 15 SAR with 15 minute wait or so.

The taxi would pickup, wait and drop off.

Of course the idea could be fine tuned to only pick up from tamimi and drop off home. Specific shuttles could be used for that as well.

  10. Since there is a bus stop infornt of the KAUST Medical Clinic (KMC); we often find shopping carts abandoned there. This obstructs the path to the clinic and may be a cause of tripping or fall hazard. We have assigned one of the KMC staff to do rounds every two hours to remove abandoned shopping carts (and bicycles parked outside the bicycle racks) and move them to the parking lot. This in itself is a waste of staff time.

In my opinion Shopping carts must be limited within the premises of the supermarket up to the adjacent supermarket parking areas.

Since I have joint KAUST, cycling has become one of my new found pleasures.
I think more people shoudl consider buying a bicycle/tricycle with a basket. It would be both good exercise and a good way to transort ytheir groceries.
