Viral infection notice: Hand, Foot and Mouth

Recently, a small number of children have been diagnosed with Hand, Foot and Mouth infection in the KAUST Daycare. Hand, foot and mouth infection is a common viral illness that usually affects children. However, it can sometimes occur in adults. Symptoms include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth and a skin rash. It is generally a self-limiting condition but occasionally complications may occur. If your child develops any symptoms, please seek medical attention.

There is no specific treatment other than relieving symptoms through over-the-counter pain and fever medications and adequate hydration.

The most important precautionary measure is to practice good personal hygiene with thorough hand washing with soap and water and disinfecting toys and other surfaces children touch.
