Community Services would like to confirm that no inbound packages from DHL or the SMSA Store2Door service will be affected by the recent change in international courier services, but FedEx shipments might be delayed.
The change in provider is as a result of SMSA, the local FedEx agent, losing their contract with FedEx. Community Services has been working closely with SMSA to review alternative options to support KAUST’s international shipping requirements, but their proposals have not been suitable for the needs of the University or the Community.
Separate discussions have also been held with the new local FedEx agent in order to maintain business with FedEx International. Unfortunately, at this time the agent is not equipped to deal with the needs of KAUST nor have they been able to secure the required local license to operate.
To ensure that shipments continue with minimal impact, Community Services has reached an agreement with DHL at a very competitive corporate rate (business and personal) for both in and outbound international shipments effective January 1, 2015.
Community Services will continue to closely monitor the new DHL arrangement and have DHL staff on the ground in KAUST (Discovery Square Post office & Central Services) to assist you with any questions you might have.
