Before joining KAPSARC, Al-Ashgar was head of Saudi Aramco’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC), which is considered “the brains” of Saudi Aramco. In this capacity, he led Saudi Aramco’s upstream research and development efforts, developing key upstream technologies for the exploration and production of Saudi Aramco’s oil and gas reservoirs.
He expanded the R&D business portfolio internally and globally through the establishment of several research centers in North America, Europe and Asia, with many cutting-edge technologies in exploration petroleum engineering becoming realities during his tenure. He was also part of the team that formulated Saudi Aramco’s upstream strategy, to help focus the company on its future direction.
