AT&T Labs–Research
March 7, 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. (Part 1) in bldg. 2, level 5, room 5209
March 8, 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. (Part 2) in bldg. 2, level 5, room 5220
We will discuss the origin of the privacy problem and cover the concepts of privacy, security, and anonymity, focusing on why gains in security have not yielded similar degrees of success in privacy.
A deeper look at the technology used by various tracking companies will give a better understanding on the ways by which we can identify leakage and linkage. The course will cover privacy issues of Online Social Networks (OSNs), both traditional and mobile, as well as several special purpose OSNs such as Pinterest or SnapChat and examine privacy protection and various solutions, the critical role of usability, and some startup company efforts.
Furthermore, the economic aspects of privacy will be discussed, taking into consideration the emerging world of transient OSNs and apps. The course will conclude with privacy research at scale and the role being played by Data Transparency Lab.
The course is open to all the KAUST community.
The course will be given in two parts:
March 7, 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. (Part 1)
March 8, 9:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. (Part 2)
