Distinguished Professor Nina Fedoroff wrote an editorial for Science Magazine called The Global Knowledge Society. Not only the theme for the recent American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) annual meeting which she chaired, her title refers to her conviction that the sustainability of our planet today depends on going beyond mere national commitments to creating knowledge economies. She reminds the reader that today’s technologies make teaching and collaboration possible anywhere and everywhere. States Prof. Fedoroff, “the task of creating a truly global knowledge society, of knitting together the scientific and technical communities of nations to solve humanity’s common problems, falls to each and all of us.”
