Ombuds for student matters

The Ombuds Office at KAUST is a new confidential service designed to help with student-related problems.

The service is open to all KAUST students, faculty, staff, postdocs or indeed anyone with a student-related issue that they are not sure how to resolve.

How can the Ombuds help?

The Ombuds will listen to your concerns in a non-judgmental way, discuss problem resolution options, give advice on the course of actions, refer you to the right person, mediate between parties and follow up to make sure your concern is resolved.

How does the Ombuds service works?

The Ombuds follows four key principles:

  • Confidentiality: The Ombuds will not discuss an individual case with anyone, unless permission is given.
  • Neutrality: The Ombuds is unable to take sides in any dispute, nor can they advocate on your behalf.
  • Informality: Meeting with the Ombuds is an informal process, as the aim is to resolve issues without having to participate in formal University investigations or complaints procedures.
  • Independence: The Ombuds acts independently and reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs on case trends and policy issues, but not on individual cases.

The Ombuds Office Charter was informed by the Code of Ethics and Professional Standards of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA).
