KAUST Advances National Platforms in Health and Mining

Through the KAUST Industry Collaboration Program (KICP), KAUST convened two strategic national work groups in Riyadh on February 15-16 to advance distinct, future-ready platforms in healthcare and mining, reinforcing KAUST’s role in enabling system-level innovation aligned with Vision 2030 priorities.

National Healthcare Platform:

In partnership with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and key healthcare ecosystem stakeholders, KAUST is supporting the advancement of a unified national healthcare platform focused on integrating health data, medical technologies, AI in health, and innovation infrastructure.

The platform aims to enable secure and ethical data sharing, strengthen governance and interoperability frameworks, and accelerate the deployment of medical devices and health technologies at national scale. By aligning regulators, healthcare providers, industry, and research institutions, the initiative seeks to enhance research translation, support digital health transformation, and improve patient outcomes across the Kingdom.

National Mining Platform:

Separately, KAUST convened stakeholders across the mining ecosystem, including the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIMR)Ministry of Water, Environment, and Agriculture (MEWA), Maaden, and industry leaders to advance the proposed National Alliance for Mining Advancement (NAMA).

This platform is designed to coordinate sustainable mining practices, critical mineral recovery, advanced materials innovation, digital transformation, and governance solutions. The initiative aims to strengthen Saudi Arabia’s global competitiveness in mining while embedding sustainability and advanced technologies across the value chain.
