IT Guru Session: Q&A With the Lync Expert

Lync is the latest from IT! To find out more about how to access and use this service click here. If you’ve heard about the service and would still like to learn more about how to Get Lync’d, here’s a quick overview:

Q: How do I get Lync 2013?
A: KAUST-issued machines will have the new Lync Client 2013 automatically installed.

Q: I still have Lync 2010 on my computer, how do I get my client updated?
A: If your computer did not receive the automatic update to Lync 2013, then a manual installation is required. To learn how to perform this installation, click here to visit the IT website where you can download and install the Lync 2013 client.

Q: I am a student and do not have a KAUST Desktop or Laptop. Lync 2013 does not connect with my KAUST Connect credentials on my personal machine. What do I do?
A: Please click here to download and install the KAUST-issued trust certificate to add it to your machine.

Dear Claire,

Thank you for your interest in Lync, unfortunate Lync is integrated with Active Directory. Hence can only be offered to users with a KAUST e-mail address.

However with the Lync-Skype connectivity, you can now easily reach your colleagues, business partners or customers who are using Lync.

Once you add Lync users to your Skype contact list in Skype for Windows or Skype for Mac OS X, you’ll be able to:

* make voice calls to your Lync contacts
* instant message the Lync contacts
* see their Lync presence status

Slight correction, there is no 2013 client for the Mac OS X version, however there is an update patch 14.0.5
