International Conference on the Marine Environment of the Red Sea

KAUST Research Conference:
International Conference on the Marine Environment of the Red Sea
Monday, November 14 to Wednesday, November 16
Exhibition Hall, Conference Center (bldg. 19)

The aim of the International Conference on the Marine Environment of the Red Sea is to share knowledge, stimulate debate, encourage new thinking and develop a regional Red Sea research map that generates new networks and partnerships going forward.

The specific objectives are to:

1.    Share high international standard, state-of-the-art science of the Red Sea;

2.    Provide a regional assessment of Red Sea research and determine gaps and opportunities for research;

3.    Establish mechanisms and platforms for data sharing;

4.    Lay the foundation for scientific representation within international frameworks, for which Red Sea nations are signatories.

Six keynote speakers from the U.S., Australia and Saudi Arabia will cover research in the region, as well as best practices internationally. A panel session on the morning of Tuesday, November 15 will assess the state of research in the Red Sea region and determine priorities going forward. Over 100 presenters will work in parallel sessions throughout the conference, sharing research insights for the Red Sea, including climate change, marine protected areas, oceanography, mangroves, contaminants, fisheries, coral reefs, primary production, the blue economy and marine spatial planning.

A poster session on Tuesday, November 15 will further provide an opportunity for researchers and students to present their work to the KAUST community and international marine science delegates.
