HSE is pleased to offer three guided bird walks in September. These walks will coincide with the peak migration period and is a perfect opportunity to meet some of the birds passing through KAUST at this time. Please sign up at the HSE website listed below.

New this month is a “Junior bird walk”. This will be held on Sunday, September 24 at the Golf Course starting at 5:15 p.m. This walk is specifically aimed at children under 16 years of age. The walk is limited to 12 places, because we will use the golf course buggies to move around. The tour will finish at around 6:30 p.m. Please arrange to drop off and collect your children from the golf course in a timely manner.
Open to all community members is a second walk around SAFAA Golf Course on Sunday, September 17, meeting in the club foyer at 5:15 p.m. On Sundays the golf course is open to walkers and we will be able to look for birds without having to worry about dodging golf balls. The walk will take about 90 minutes.

Also open to all community members is the Island Mangrove Walk on Saturday, September 30, starting at 6:30 a.m. and lasting until about 8:30 a.m. The walk will allow us the opportunity to witness a number of passage water birds. Herons, waders and terns should all be passing in good numbers at this time. The mangroves also act as a safe staging post for a number of passerines. We should see a good selection of birds during the walk and will be hoping for at least 30 species.
For each of the walks please bring binoculars if you have them. HSE has some pairs it can lend too. Bringing a hat and water is also a good idea. We hope to see you there.
