Guided Bird walks in February

Nile Valley Sunbird

Health, Safety and Environment are offering three guided bird walks for February. This is an ideal opportunity to see some of the avian stars of KAUST. The walks should coincide with the start of the Spring migration when tens of thousands of birds pass along the Red Sea on their way to their breeding grounds in Eastern Europe and the Arctic Circle. With luck over 40 species of bird may be encountered and the walks pass through some of our nicest areas at the very best times of the day. We hope to see you there!

Walk 1 (adults) on Friday, February 15 at South Beach. We will meet at the ‘tent’ car park at 6:30 a.m. This is approximately 300 meters before the entrance to South Beach, The walk is limited to 12 participants. The walk will last about 90 minutes.

Walk 2 (juniors) on Sunday, February 17 at the Safaa Golf Club. We will be meeting at the reception area at 5:00 p.m. The walk is limited to 10 participants. As we use binoculars to view the birds it is best of children are at least six years of age.

Walk 3 (adults) on Saturday, February 23 at the Island mangroves. It is a walk around the Island Mangroves and is limited to 12 participants. We will meet at the Island Mosque at 6:30 a.m. and the walk will take up to two hours to complete.

Great Cormorant

For all the walks a limited number of pairs of binoculars are available but if you have your own please bring them along to avoid disappointment.

When is Walk 3? The Lens says Saturday Feb 20th although the 20th is on a Wednesday. The linked page says Friday, February 23rd, but the 23rd is a Saturday.
