Archaeological Discoveries in Dûmat al-Jandal area (Jawf province, KSA)

Abstract:
The excavations and surveys carried out by the Saudi-Italian-French archaeological team at Dûmat al-Jandal (ancient Adummatu) have recently yielded major discoveries on the history and environment of this well-known oasis. These include a Neolithic cultic platform, a fortified area, a hydraulic network (qanat), as well as an exceptional rock art site (Camel site). It will be the objective of this lecture to present and discuss these results, which deeply modify our understanding of the human presence in this isolated region of northern Arabia.
About the speaker:
Dr. Guillaume Charloux (French National Center for Scientific Research) has been working as an archaeologist in the Near East (Egypt, Southern Levant, Yemen and Saudi Arabia) since 1998. He is now co-leading the Saudi-French archaeological projects in al-Bad’ (ancient Madian) and at the Camel Site (Jawf province). He was co-director of the archaeological project at Dûmat al-Jandal (ancient Adummatu) between 2010 and 2018.
