About Wayakit
The coronavirus pandemic changed our cleaning and disinfection habits. People started pumping up their groceries with hand sanitizers, disinfectants and wipes as the pandemic began last year. It is known that 80% of the time, cleaning activities are done by women. In Saudi Arabia, the cleaning and disinfection market is dominated by “trusted brands,” where effectivity is prioritized over safety. Most people do not realize that they are bringing home around 58 L/year (Statista, 2020) of toxic cleaning compounds that can cause reproductive toxicity, asthma, skin and eye irritation, among others. We are cleaning and disinfecting now constantly and everywhere, but to which health cost?
What are Wayakit’s cleaning and disinfection products?
Wayakit is a KAUST startup that develops natural cleaning formulations bioengineered by women in science, who understand that effectivity does not necessarily compromises safety and health. Currently, Wayakit surface disinfectant and multipurpose cleaner is used for disinfection of international aircraft at the three main airports in Saudi Arabia.
Wayakit is opening a pilot production plant at KAUST and would like to invite the KAUST community to a cozy evening Iftar to learn more about the myths and facts in cleaning and disinfection, and to introduce their current products, which will be for sale at a special price.

How to get our products
As a KAUST community member, you will be able to enjoy Wayakit’s products directly from the factory to your home at a special price. Products can be purchased in two modes:
- Buy your preferred formulation of Wayakit’s in refillable bottles
- Buy the liquid, bring your plastic container. Wayakit is launching the Green Squad program, where you can bring your own plastic bottle to refill it with Wayakit’s formulation and reduce plastic consumption!
By joining the green squad, you will be able to contribute to an area of over 5 million square meters disinfected with non-toxic compounds and saving more than 4 million liters of water per year! But most importantly, you will protect your home and family from the spread of communicable diseases without compromising other aspects of your health.

Wayakit’s point of sale operating hours
Come to buy Wayakit’s products at their production plant in the following hours after April 27, 2021:
- During Ramadan: Sunday to Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Normal operating time: Sunday to Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
COVID-19 Safety Measures
Please note this is a COVID safe event. Due to Keeping KAUST Safe guidelines, capacity is limited. Only those who register and receive a confirmation from Wayakit will be admitted with their respective KAUST photo ID.
Your registration may include up to four individuals from the same household or “COVID bubble,” who will be seated together.
With the health and safety of our participants and audiences in mind, we will enforce rigorously COVID-19 protocols and procedures, including physical distancing and face coverings.
