Call for musicians and vocalists for KAUST Ensemble Concert

The Office of the Arts invites community members to join our three music groups – the Orchestra, the Chorus and the Angklung Ensemble. All three groups will prepare for this semester’s KAUST Ensemble Concert, scheduled for Monday, November 20, 7:30 – 8:30 p.m.

The Orchestra rehearses on Monday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Auditorium (bldg. 20), starting on September 25.

The Orchestra is made up of individuals who have had previous experience playing a musical instrument; a string instrument, a wind instrument or a brass instrument. Interested community members should schedule an informal interview by contacting the Arts Office at artsoffice@kaust.edu.sa.

The Chorus rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. in the Auditorium (bldg. 20), starting on September 19.

The Chorus consists of community members who have some prior knowledge of music reading; however, the main objective is the enjoyment of singing in an ensemble.

The Angklung Ensemble rehearses on Sunday evenings from 8:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Auditorium (bldg. 20), starting on September 24.

The Angklung is a traditional Indonesian musical instrument made of bamboo tubes each with a different pitch that is attached to a frame. By shaking the tubes and playing all the notes together, the ensemble creates a complete song with harmonies. All musical levels are welcome; it requires only teamwork to achieve a meaningful musical experience.

For more information about the Orchestra, Chorus, or Angklung Ensemble, please view the Office of the Arts website at artsoffice.kaust.edu.sa/ or contact the Arts Office at artsoffice@kaust.edu.sa.
