Biodiversity underwater camera at King Abdullah Monument

Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Department is pleased to share with the community its latest nature conservation efforts through LIVE underwater camera at King Abdullah Monument. The intent of this project is to engage community members in nature conservation by highlighting the rich marine biodiversity in our own backyard.

This new live underwater camera is located at KAUST’s Nature Conservation Area – near King Abdullah Monument (152 hectares that has been dedicated for nature conservation and research).
Enjoy the view, please note that weather condition and day light may affect the visibility. Take the HSE challenge, and see if you can identify the most common fish species in our coastal area! Check out the information of the fish species on HSE’s Fish Species Identification Booklet.

As the custodian of the Nature Conservation Area, to date, HSE Department implemented a series of community engagement tools from publication of “A Walk Through KAUST, Mangroves Between the Land and the Sea”, to HSE Self-Guided Bird Walk Series:

Fantastic initiative. I can’t thank enough the wonderful team behind this. I can see that the team behind this live feed just not only thought of installing a camera but also had the remarkable foresight to provide along a very useful species identification manual- much appreciated folks!

Yes, this is a wonderful idea. Fun to watch, and the fish seem curious about the camera as well! Great work!
