It will be appropriate to provide a period of time to acquire these helmets, one or two weeks, before issuing citations. Also, if possible have Tamimi or Safety offer some for sale.

Dear Mario

Thank you for taking the time to comment on this announcement. The updated Traffic and Vehicle Safety Policy was announced to the community on May 20, 2015. As part of this update, the policy requires all users of motorcycles, scooters etc. to wear “approved motorcycle helmets – that complies with recognized International standards”. The community was given approximately six (6) weeks to obtain suitable head gear before any form of citations could be issued.

This announcement is to provide both a reminder of the new helmet rules as well as clarity for those people who are still unsure what ‘approved helmets..’ actually means. This is also a reminder to all that bicycle helmets are not appropriate head gear for motorized vehicles.

I hope this answers your question; should you wish to discuss this matter further please don’t hesitate to email the team at trafficsafety@kaust.edu.sa
