After six weeks of the community generously donating items to the Thrift Shop, it is ready to open. The first opening day will be Saturday, December 7, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon and from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m., with three subsequent open days before the winter break (see schedule below) .

What is the “Second Chance” thrift shop?
- The thrift shop is part of a KAUST Community club and is run by a group of volunteers.
- The KAUST community donates preloved items to the shop.
- Donations of items are made by the community and sorted and priced by the volunteers.
- Community members can buy the preloved items at a bargain price during the shop’s opening hours.
- Income from the shop will be donated to Social Responsibility to support KAUST’s outreach programs in Thuwal.
When are the Open Days?
During the Open Days, community members are welcome to come and shop or donate pre-loved items.
- Saturday, November 30 (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM)
- Wednesday, December 3 (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
- Saturday, December 7 (2:00 PM – 6:00 PM)

The shop will reopen on Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

Where is the Thrift Shop?
- West of the Grand Mosque, next to the canal, on Exploration Avenue.
- Park your vehicle on Exploration Avenue or in the Discovery Square parking.
- Please use the Discovery Square bus stop, by the mosque.
What to donate/What will be on sale?
Quality household items, small appliances, accessories, kitchenware, decorative items, sports equipment, garden equipment, DVDs, games, toys, children’s clothes under 4 years old. (No adult clothes. No 4+ children’s clothes, please).
How to donate?
- Put items in the bins outside the thrift shop, anytime.
- Donate during “Second Chance” opening hours. There is drop off parking (max 10 mins), next to the ramp outside the shop.
- In the donation bin in the entrance to the big Tamimi, during opening hours.

How to volunteer at the thrift shop?
- “Second Chance” needs volunteers for selling, sorting and pricing.

- Volunteer for a regular commitment or for sporadic help!
