A Message from President Chameau: water supply update

Dear KAUST Community,

I am pleased to announce that we will start restoring targeted water supplies for periods of time, starting at 7:00 p.m. tonight.

Residential areas will have water between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m., with variable levels of pressure. As you can imagine, starting this process for an entire city can be complex and challenging. If we experience any problems during the start-up process, you will receive an announcement.

Tonight we will monitor our usage of water and with continued progress on refilling our holding tanks, I expect the next period to begin Friday morning. We will send out an announcement of the start time in the morning.

Our goal is to move forward as quickly as possible to fully restore water service across the community and campus. However, our efforts depend upon the reliability of sufficient trucked in supply of water to our holding tanks; the progress made in repairing the intake pipe; and restarting the desalination process. I am pleased that a strong team of Saudi Aramco pipeline experts are currently overseeing the repair of the intake pipe.

Bottled water for drinking and other needs will continue to be delivered to homes. We have also set-up four water distribution points. We will continue with this service to our community as long as necessary. I am thankful to the volunteers who are helping with the distribution.

As we move towards restoring service, I ask you to please continue minimizing your use of water.

Thank you for your continued help and understanding.

President Jean-Lou Chameau
