Establishment of wastewater-based SARS-CoV-2 monitoring system in South Korea over the past two years

Abstract
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Wastewater surveillance (WS) approach is getting more attention since WS is able to capture the genetic signal of SARS-CoV-2 shed by people with and without symptoms. Accordingly, WS serves as an early warning that COVID-19 is spreading around the world. In this talk, the past and current WS case studies, including South Korea with ddPCR, will be presented.
About the speaker
Dr. Sungpyo Kim received his Ph.D. in environmental engineering from SUNY at Buffalo in 2005. His research group at Korea University has focused on the fate of microcontaminants in the aquatic environment. In 2020, his group began wastewater surveillance for the presence of pathogens, including SARS‑CoV‑2, and is currently a leading research group for expanding their efforts to South Korea.
