The Horticulture Service announces the return of the Best Backyard contest after a brief hiatus. Apart from the enjoyment gardening brings, the service looks forward to sharing our resident’s horticultural skills and love of plants with the whole community.
Entries are now welcome for this annual showcase popular with residents of all ages.
All submissions will be considered against the criteria below:
- Healthy lawn, neatly mowed and edged
- Healthy living plants, well groomed
- Minimum weed
- Backyard free of debris and clutter
- Efficient irrigation water usage
- Overall pleasing appearance and creativity

Contest details
- The monthly contest will start from February 2023 to June 2023
- The monthly closing date on or before the twenty-seventh (27th) of each month.
(Submissions received after this date will be rolled over to the following month until June 25, 2023)
- Judging will occur on the last day of the month
- Only shortlisted Units/Villa will be visited
- Residents do not have to be present – however; please ensure access to the backyard
Prizes for the winning entry include a Garden-of-the-month certificate, gifts, and one complimentary gardening service.

Is there a possibility to launch another category within this competition with the name of ‘Best Balcony Competition’? Students at KAUST would also be able to participate in gardening and house rejuvenation activities in this case.
