The KAUST Academy is excited to announce that they are partnering with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) to co-host WAICY 2022 here at KAUST on December 3 and 4, 2022.

ReadyAI supports schools around the world to deliver high quality AI education to K-12 students.  Since 2018, the annual World AI Competition for Youth (WAICY) has been inspiring students worldwide to learn and use AI to solve real-world problems.  WAICY sparks creativity and provides practical demonstrations of the technology that will shape our futures.  Students showcase their knowledge and creative thinking in Artificial Intelligence.

WAICY 2022 will attract students from 90+ countries and will take place physically and virtually at the KAUST university.

  • The competition is open to all students around the world – aged 6-18.
  • Students can participate as individuals or as part of a team and will showcase solutions they have designed using AI to address real-world problems.
  • Students compete with peers in the same Grades (Grades 1-4, Grades 5-8 and Grades 9-12).
  • Prizes are awarded for each of the Grade groups for AI Excellence, Impact Excellence and Design Excellence.  In addition, there are awards for Outstanding Coach and Outstanding Organization.
  • The judges for WAICY 2022 are not yet finalized, but in previous years, judges have included experts from Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Stanford, and Harvard, and industry partners from Alphabet,  Meta and Cloudera.

Students from The KAUST School and schools in the Kingdom can participate and watch WAICY 2022 in-person and will connect with other participants around the world virtually.  (Presentations and demonstrations will take place from 3:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. KSA time).

More information about WAICY and the partnership with The KAUST Academy can be found here.
