COVID-19 vaccines in KAUST

Appointments for the vaccine at KAUST Health are available and bookings can be made here.  Availability is limited, so these will be on a first-booked, first-served basis. Therefore, if you book a slot it is very important that you attend and do so on the appropriate date and time.

Note that it is a Kingdom requirement for:

  • Any individual aged 12 and over to be fully vaccinated
  • Any individual aged 18 and over to have received a booster dose by eight months after the second dose (first for Johnson & Johnson vaccine), although eligibility starts at three months after the second dose.

Failure to meet these requirements will result in a loss of the ‘immune’ status on Tawakkalna. It will mean you will be denied access to work, class, other buildings and transport.

Pfizer vaccines for those aged 5 – 11

Additional appointments for children aged 5 – 11 will be made available shortly and bookings can be made here.  Availability is limited, so these will be on a first-booked, first-served basis. Therefore it is very important that you attend and do so on the appropriate date and time.

Register your COVID-19 booster

To retain ‘immune’ status in Tawakkalna, you are required to receive a COVID-19 booster vaccine if your second dose (or first in Johnson & Johnson) was more than eight months ago.

All KAUST residents, employees and students aged 16 and over who have so far received a COVID-19 booster outside of KAUST Health are required to complete the vaccine monitoring form registering their vaccination with KAUST. This is because KAUST Health does not have access to your Tawakkalna status from the Ministry of Health. No action is required for anyone who received their booster dose in KAUST Health.

Anyone who has not met the above requirements will be referred to the appropriate administrative unit for follow-up and must not go to the workplace, classroom or any business/facility in KAUST.

February 6 COVID-19 update

As of February 6, there were 134 new cases of COVID-19 confirmed at KAUST since the last bulletin on January 30.

In the last seven days, the majority of cases have been found from symptomatic testing, with the remainder from pre-departure travel testing.
The 14-day positivity rate* at KAUST is currently 29.5% as of February 6, 2022. Due to the change in testing of only symptomatics and those traveling to countries requiring a test, we expect this number to remain high due to the larger percentage of symptomatic tests or move to Not-Applicable due to the low overall test numbers in KAUST.

We remind all community members that we are currently operating in Keeping KAUST Safe Tier 1B.

If you have symptoms, please stay home and call KAUST Health at 012 808 0940.

* Positivity rate = % of positive tests returned from the total number of tests taken during a 14-day period. Excludes where the result is still pending or the swab was rejected.

** This rate will only be displayed if the number of tests conducted achieves a given significant threshold (724 tests). Over the past 14-day period, 2.417 tests were conducted, with 364 positive cases.
