Face coverings: Tier 0.5 update

Cases continue to remain very low in KAUST and Saudi Arabia, vaccines and boosters are widely available and ~98% of those greater than 12 years old in KAUST are vaccinated. Based on this information, KAUST has modified its Tier 0.5 guidelines, and face coverings are no longer required to be worn; it is an individual’s safety choice.

This follows the same approach previously made to physical distancing, and we now rely on our community to make an informed decision as to when and where face coverings are used. Anyone feeling inclined to wear a face covering should continue to do so.

Please note that TKS and Daycare, which have large populations of community members predominantly under the age of 12 and unvaccinated, will remain with their current controls and mitigations. KAUST Health and graduate classrooms will also still require the use of face coverings. Refer to the Face Coverings page on the Keeping KAUST Safe website for more information.
