Launched last November, NASA-JPL’s Mars Science Laboratory, nicknamed Curiosity, will land on Mars on Monday, August 6 at 8:31 a.m. Saudi time. The landing of Curiosity promises to be dramatic. It will be lowered from its cruise vehicle using tethers and a sky crane.

WEP invites all KAUST community members to watch the landing via a live feed from NASA at the Cinema in Discovery Square on Monday morning. Doors to the Cinema open at 8:00 a.m.

KAUST’s special connection to the Mars landing is through JPL’s Director, Professor Charles Elachi, who is a member of President Shih’s International Advisory Council.

Over the next months and years, Curiosity will rove the Red planet and commence ten instrument-based investigations to search for evidence of past and present habitable environments.

Be part of science in action and join us at the Cinema in Discovery Square for the Mars Landing this Monday morning.
