As of July 4, there were 12 new positive cases of COVID-19 confirmed at KAUST since the last bulletin (published June 27, 2021).

  • 11 of the 12 had at least one vaccine dose
  • 10 presented with symptoms
  • Four were from the same household

All positive cases are in quarantine and contact tracing has been completed

The 14-day positivity rate* at KAUST is currently 1.7% as of July 4, 2021.

We urge all community members to practice physical distancing, the wearing of face coverings, hand washing and adherence to the Keeping KAUST Safe guidelines. If you have symptoms, please stay home and call KAUST Health at 012 808 0940.

* Positivity rate = % of positive tests returned from the total number of tests taken during a 14-day period. Excludes where the result is still pending or the swab was rejected.
** This rate will only be displayed if the number of tests conducted achieves a given significant threshold (724 tests). Over the past 14-day period, 822 tests were conducted, with 15 positive cases.


Latest Travel Restrictions

On Saturday, July 3, the Saudi authorities added another four countries to the banned travel list. From 11 p.m. on July 4, the UAE, Ethiopia, Afghanistan and Vietnam will be added to the banned travel list, in addition to the previously announced countries. This restriction is for all Saudi citizens and residents. Anyone traveling from (or transiting through) any of these countries will have to spend 14 days in a different, non-restricted country before traveling back to the Kingdom OR if en route from these countries, individuals will be subject to Saudi institutional quarantine. The Travel and Quarantine page on the HSE website has been updated with the most up-to-date information. Please be aware that the situation is dynamic and additional changes may be announced without notice. We therefore advise the KAUST community to monitor official news channels for updates as they occur.


Second vaccine dose availability

The second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is now available in the Kingdom for people aged 40 and older. Individuals who meet this criteria (and had their first dose at least 42 days ago) can now book their appointment through the Sehhaty or Tawakkalna apps.
