The Holy Month of Ramadan is expected to begin either on Monday, April 12, or Tuesday, April 13, 2021.

Ramadan working hours:

During Ramadan, employees are asked to use this period to transition from remote and hybrid working back to the office. The working hours for Muslim employees will be reduced from eight (8) hours to six (6) hours per day. Working hours remain at eight (8) hours per day for non-Muslim employees. Ramadan working schedule will be as follows:

  • Muslims: 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
  • Non-Muslims: 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The University Eid Al-Fitr holiday will be from Thursday, May 13 to Thursday, May 20, 2021 (inclusive).

 Useful information during Ramadan:

  • Physical and virtual meetings should take place during the agreed working hours only. Please avoid scheduling meetings in late afternoon or evenings.
  • Employees who are not fasting are requested to refrain from eating, drinking and smoking in public areas or while attending meetings during daytime hours.
  • Please consider physical distancing and avoid exchanging Iftar or Suhoor meals or joining group Iftar or Suhoor.
  • Continue to follow the Keeping KAUST Safe Guidelines

Dress code during Ramadan:

As Ramadan approaches, we would like to remind everyone of the University’s Code of Conduct and particularly of the dress code. Modest and non-revealing attire should be worn. Please be mindful when attending meetings, out in the community or shopping in retail outlets on campus.
