University Badminton Championship 2021


The University Badminton Championship, one of the highlights of the University’s sporting calendar, culminated on Saturday, October 23 at the TKS Gymnasium. The event was held for the first time in two years due to the pandemic. With over 180 participants, consisting of graduate students and other community members, the competition had the highest turnout since it started in 2012.

The event was opened by President Tony Chan who gave some very inspiring remarks and played an exhibition game with some of the graduate student participants.

The event was organized by the University Badminton Association, a graduate student-led group, and was sponsored by Graduate Events and Recreation, Graduate Affairs, with the support by the operations team at TKS.

After two days of some very exciting and skillful badminton the results of the competition were as follows:

Men singles:

1st Place: Alvin Huang

2nd Place: Andre Henriques

3rd Place: Daquan Guo

Women singles:

1st Place: Vladlena Kharchenko

2nd Place: NingNing Chen

3rd Place: Ting Li

Men doubles:

1st Place: Longxi Zhou & Alvin Huang

2nd Place: Adnan Qamar & Praveen Kumar Singya

3rd Place: Haoliang Lu & Daquan Guo

Women doubles:

1st Place: Ting Li and Min Xue

2nd Place: NingNing Chen and Cong Yang

3rd Place: Chengcheng Zhao and Liang Zhang

Mixed doubles:

1st Place: Daquan Guo and Vladlena Kharchenko

2nd Place: Hanchen Wang and Ting Li

3rd Place: Mengwei Liu and Min Xue
