KAUST Smart Gate: Fast Access through RFID

Government Affairs is pleased to announce the launch of the first phase of the KAUST Security Smart Gates program.

This new high-tech program begins with installing fast access radio frequency Identification (RFID) smart tags to all KAUST and service provider vehicles. This is to improve the gate access experience while maintaining security measures.

How does it work?

The first gate to accept the RFID tags will be Gate 1A, the first gate you pass when you enter KAUST. When a tagged vehicle approaches Gate 1A or Gate 3A, it will be verified automatically by smart tag readers and allowed to pass through the gate smoothly and safely.

What do I need to do?

  1. The use of smart tags will replace the current vehicle stickers. We urge all current KAUST vehicle sticker holders to start applying for the smart tags and proceed to the replacement location
  2. From Saturday, November 21, 2020 until Saturday, November 28, 2020 (9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m.), we will be glad to serve you at our drive-through service at the KAUST Inn parking lot, where no appointment is required.
  3. From Sunday, November 29, 2020 and onward (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), we will be glad to serve you at our tag offices (location information below) during normal working hours. Please book an appointment for your visit. This is available at the end of the renewal process on the VMS.

Tag offices:

  • GA Center ID Office (tags fitted at the north garage car park)
  • Gate 2 Security Office

Requests can now be made via the Security e-Services Platform (VMS) or by scanning the QR code below.

To request a tag in VMS, go to the “Vehicle Tag” section and “Create Vehicle RFID Tag.” Select either “New” if the vehicle is new to you, or “Renew” if it’s an existing vehicle.  Complete the form that follows.

RFID tags can be automatically deactivated when no longer needed and won’t need to be physically removed. This will streamline the departure clearance process and the transfer of tags when selling tagged vehicles.
