KAUST cases

One new positive case was identified on campus yesterday. The total number of cases of COVID-19 identified at KAUST is now 29 with 3 of those currently active in quarantine.

We are keeping in touch with all of our active cases and monitoring their progress. We wish each of these community members well.

How does contact tracing work?

When a positive case is confirmed at KAUST, a process of contact tracing starts to identify contacts of the confirmed individual. Identifying close contacts of an individual who has tested positive for COVID-19 is dependent on multiple factors. A close contact is confirmed following a discussion by a healthcare professional with the source patient and their contacts.

The details of any potential interactions are discussed and any necessary action will be advised by the healthcare professional. It is unlikely anyone will be deemed a close contact if they have not had a prolonged exposure directly with an individual who has been confirmed positive with COVID-19.

It’s everyone’s responsibility to avoid gatherings, to wear a face covering and to maintain physical distancing. Those measures will greatly reduce the risk of being a close contact. Help in Keeping KAUST Safe.

More information about contact tracing can be found here.

China alumni chapter gives back to KAUST

Alumni and friends from China have sent materials to assist the KAUST community during the COVID-19 crisis.

Two Health Guard Robots, 2,000 disposable face masks, and the provision of technical advice are among their contributions.

“Alumni are at the heart of a university’s continued success. It’s great to see the involvement of alumni in the University community in Saudi Arabia and internationally. On behalf of the KAUST community, I would like to thank our Alumni Chapter in China for their generosity,” Tony Chan said.
