KAUST cases
The total number of cases of COVID-19 identified at KAUST remains at 16. All of the positive cases have been discharged upon completion of the MOH testing requirements. The last positive case was 9 days ago.
Reopening plan: Phase 2 begins on May 28
Following the May 22 announcement indicating the University was preparing a phased reopening plan, the KC3 would like to inform the community that Phase 2 will begin on Thursday, May 28.
A number of changes will take effect from tomorrow, Thursday, May 28, including :
- Lifting of the curfew
- Allowing outdoor gatherings of 5 people or less
- Tamimi resuming normal opening hours (7:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m. daily)
- Restarting of some recreation activities
- The quarantine period will revert to 14 days
We would like to emphasize that we strongly recommend that vulnerable groups remain at home.
Quarantine remains in place for people entering KAUST. Anyone entering KAUST from May 28 onwards will be quarantined for 14 days.

KC3 is also studying yesterday’s government’s announcements regarding the phased reopening of the Kingdom. As we roll-out further elements of the KAUST reopen plan, alignment with the governments guidelines will be an important factor. Specifically, the accommodation of greater movement to and from the main gate, the return to the workplace for some staff and the ongoing facilitation of remote working will be specified and communicated shortly.
The Phase 2 Operations and Resumption List will be updated regularly, and any modifications will also be shared with the KAUST community through the “COVID-19 advisory and campus news” email announcements.
Please note: We will continue to monitor case numbers, and if we see an increase in cases it may be necessary to return to Phase 1 of our plan. We can minimize the chances of further cases by observing the recommended physical distancing, face covering and other mitigation measures that are in place.Please review the Keep KAUST Safe guidance for further advice.

What are the COVID-19 guidelines provided by HSE?
The KC3 Health and Safety domain provides the KAUST community and service providers with a series of guidelines for implementation in order to reduce the transmission of the virus. These make up the “Keep KAUST Safe” community campaign. These guidelines are not exhaustive and everyone is encouraged to practice preventive measures (physical distancing, hand washing, respiratory etiquette, etc.) to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone.
